The structural engineering study

Every structural question gets a well-founded answer here.

Every structural engineering study at Studie Tien rests on four pillars, ensuring consistently high-quality advice within realistic budget parameters.

  • 01

    Study

We analyse the construction project at its core: materials used and proposed methods. From our calculation models, we formulate targeted recommendations based on the predefined requirements of the project.

  • 02

    Design

Our structural engineering studies cover multiple design options. We design foundations and all structures built in a range of materials: steel, concrete, composite steel-concrete and timber.

  • 03

    BIM visualisation

We render our study models in a 3D BIM model, enabling all parties involved to set up the construction process clearly, predictably and efficiently.

  • 04

    Dedicated point of contact

Every structural engineering study has a lead structural engineer who serves as the single point of contact for the project owner at all times (SPOC, Single Point of Contact).

Powerful visualisation

Every structural engineering study at Studie Tien is developed using powerful 3D software. In the BIM model we model the complete structure, formwork and reinforcement in full detail.

Our structural engineers bring everything technically up to standard before work begins on site. This ensures an efficient, clear and cost-saving start to every construction project.

Foundation and structure design

In concrete terms, a structural engineering study covers:

  • Foundation design
  • Design of steel structures
  • Design of concrete structures
  • Design of composite steel-concrete structures
  • Design of timber structures

Where are structural engineering studies applied?

Every major construction project improves its chances of success with a thorough structural engineering study. Over the past two decades, Studie Tien has completed structural studies across a wide range of sectors:

  • Property development
  • Industrial buildings and production facilities
  • Offices
  • Distribution centres
  • Large residential apartment complexes
  • Hotels
  • Warehouses
  • Public buildings
  • Healthcare facilities

What is the benefit of a thorough structural engineering study?

A thorough structural engineering study means no surprises during construction. Cost-conscious thinking is built into the design phase, keeping the final structural costs under control.

What does a structural engineering study for a building include?

The structural engineering study consists, depending on the scale and nature of the assignment, of an initial assessment of construction methods and sizing of the primary structure, establishing the design parameters. This initial assessment is progressively detailed and, where necessary, adjusted throughout the project phases, preliminary design, design and construction documents. The final deliverables comprise a design report, construction drawings supplemented with bending schedules for the reinforcement, an IFC model, a bill of quantities and a specification.

Do you work with BIM (Building Information Modeling)?

All structures are modelled in 3D, with data linked according to our own standard or a project-specific standard. Via the IFC data model, these models can be exchanged with their underlying data, or the required data can be extracted.

What is the advantage of using one consultancy for both structural and MEP engineering?

When both building services and structural engineering are handled by a single consultancy, interdisciplinary coordination can begin early in the project and conflicts are identified at an early stage. This coordination is maintained throughout the entire design process.
